I know that I just wrote about moving out of the city that is considered one of the pizza meccas of the world. As someone who was born and raised in Connecticut, I was certainly not surprised to find delicious pizza in New Haven. After all, it, too, is considered one of the greats when it comes to pizza. And sure, there are the classics - Sally's, Pepe's, and Modern {the last of which is another personal fave}. But, Da Legna takes New Haven pizza to a different level entirely. The dough epitomizes the best qualities of New Haven pizza - wood-fired, crispy, yet chewy perfection. What sets apart Da Legna's pizza from others in the area is the way in which their pizzas are dressed. The Patate: Mashed Potato, Spinach, Bacon, Mozzarella, Smoked Gouda. The Rustica: Olives, Roasted Red Peppers, Daniello dry cured sausage, San Marzano Tomatoes, Burrata Cheese. In other words, they create thoughtful {and more importantly} delicious combinations that make you crave at least one more slice. If you are not from the area, it is certainly worth a visit. If you are, this should be tonight's dinner.
